Amateur Radio Boaters Net
The Southern California Boater’s Net (SCBN) operates every Sunday morning at 0900 PDT on the PAPA System repeater network (http://www.papasys.com). The purpose of this net is to provide information to mariners who are ham radio operators and to facilitate communication between boaters, friends, and family. All amateur radio operators are welcome to check in. Priority will be given to those underway (mobile maritime!) or who can provide information pertinent to boaters. Wind, visibility, sea surface, and other reports from shore side locations are a great example.
Details:
The PAPA System’s analog repeaters provide coverage for coastal and inland Southern California from Santa Ynez (north of Santa Barbara) down to the border with Mexico. Some mariner ham radio operators have reached PAPA System repeaters from Ensenada. You can also join in via D-STAR on XRF012A, via DMR on Brandmeister “PAPA Bridge” Talkgroup 31078, or via Echolink on the *PAPA* conference. For those callers who are not able to connect via radio, the Echolink app for smart phones is a great alternative. Simply connect to the *PAPA* (asterisks included) conference on your app and you will be linked in for the net. For more information visit the PAPA System website at www.papasys.com
